Description:

This presentation will provide an overview of the housing reform efforts of Evansville native Albion Fellows Bacon, who was active in such endeavors both locally and statewide. It will also discuss the creation of New Deal-era Lincoln Gardens, one of the first public housing projects in the country. 

 

Robert G. Barrows is professor of history at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI). He co-edited the Encyclopedia of Indianapolis (1994), authored Albion Fellows Bacon: Indiana's Municipal Housekeeper (2000), and has published several articles and book chapters dealing with Indiana history and American urban history. His article examining the creation of Lincoln Gardens appeared in the spring 2014 issue of Ohio Valley History.
